Twenty-five Rules of Civility
The 25 Rules of Civility

     "Choose Civility" is an ongoing community-wide initiative, led by Howard County Library, to position Howard County as a model of civility. The project intends to enhance respect, empathy, consideration and tolerance in Howard County. More information about the program can be found at the Choose Civility Website.

Here are The 25 Rules of Civility

1. Pay Attention 13. Keep it down
     (and rediscover silence)
2. Acknowledge others 14. Respect other people's time
3. Think the Best 15. Respect other people's space
4. Listen 16. Apologize earnestly
5. Be Inclusive 17. Assert yourself
6. Speak Kindly 18. Avoid personal questions
7. Don't speak ill 19. Care for your guests
8. Accept and give praise 20. Be a considerate guest
9. Respect even a subtle "no" 21. Think twice before asking favors
10. Respect others' opinions 22. Refrain from idle complaints
11. Mind your body 23. Accept and give constructive criticism
12. Be agreeable 24. Respect the environment and be gentle to              animals

25. Don't shift responsibility and blame
